Wig Cap Construction - Aspects of a Wig Cap

1. TOP

The top section of the wig can be ventilated a variety of ways. Single knots are standard, but the style may require split knots, v-loop ventilation or the French Drawn method. If the wig is comprised of thin skin, hair injection may be necessary. To maximize a more natural look, a medium density is suggested.

2. PU STRIP OR FOUNDATION SEAM

The PU (Polyurethane) coating is optional.

Applying a 1 ½ - ½ inch coat of polyurethane will serve as a barrier between the foundation and the skin. However, the PU coating is optional.

This section can also be used to create a seam to join two pieces of wig foundation material. This technique is used when only the most transparent lace is applied around the perimeter of the cap while the remainder is constructed with a more durable foundation.

3. INVISIBLE HAIRLINE

Only the finest lace should be used to create the invisible hairline. Light-to-medium density is suggested and the addition of baby hair will enhance the hairline’s illusion. Avoid double-knot ventilation and add only 1-2 strands at a time.

4. CUTTING LACE

A minimum of 1-2 inches of cutting lace should extend from the invisible hairline. This lace will not include any strands of hair. Trim this lace only when the wig is positioned accurately on the head.

5. TABS

Tabs are located in the temple area and are usually constructed with non-slip material. They can be coated with PU (Polyurethane) so that tape or liquid adhesive can easily be applied to secure the wig.

6. CROWN

Wig cap foundation material or lace can be added in this section. It is acceptable to ventilate using double knots.

7. ELASTIC BAND

The elastic band will allow the flexibility to ensure a comfortable and secure fit.

8. BACK

Wig cap foundation material or lace can be added in this section. It is acceptable to ventilate using double knots.

9. NAPE

Apply lace foundation in the nape area. Single knots are suggested in this section. Adding baby hair can also enhance this section. Light-to-medium density.
